What to Expect at a Vintage Furniture Fair

If you have never been to a vintage furniture fair before, you are in for a treat. Whether you are furnishing your first flat, looking for a statement piece, or just fancy a good browse, a vintage fair is one of the best days out for anyone who cares about how their home looks.

Here is what to expect when you visit The Vintage Home Show.

It is nothing like a car boot sale

The first thing people notice is the quality. A curated vintage fair is not a jumble of random items on a trestle table. Every trader has been selected for the quality and variety of their stock. You will find everything from Danish teak sideboards and Ercol dining chairs to statement lighting, original artwork, ceramics, glass and textiles. Most pieces span the 1920s to the 1990s, with a strong focus on mid-century modern design.

Bring cash (but cards work too)

Most traders accept card payments these days, but it is always worth having some cash on you. Smaller items, quick deals and the occasional “I’ll knock a bit off for cash” moment are all part of the experience. There are cash machines near all our venues if you need them.

Arrive early for the best selection

Our events offer an early bird slot (usually 30 minutes before general admission for a couple of pounds extra). If there is a specific type of piece you are after, the early bird is worth it. The best finds tend to go quickly. That said, some of the best deals happen in the last hour when traders would rather sell than load the van.

You can usually arrange delivery

Fallen in love with a sideboard but drove a Fiat 500? Many traders offer delivery, especially for larger pieces. It is always worth asking. Some will deliver locally for free, others charge a small fee depending on distance.

It is a proper day out

Our venues are part of the experience. Victoria Baths in Manchester is a stunning Grade II listed Edwardian swimming pool. Pudsey Civic Hall in Leeds has free parking and a cafe. St Mary’s Church in Primrose Hill is a short walk from Chalk Farm tube. All venues have refreshments, so you can take your time and enjoy the browse.

It is a proper day out

The Vintage Home Show runs events throughout the year in Leeds, Manchester and London. Tickets start from £3 and under 16s go free. Check our events page for upcoming dates and book your tickets online.
